BrokerCheck tells you instantly whether a person or firm is registered, as required by law, to sell securities (stocks, bonds, mutual funds and more), offer investment advice or both.

Scope BrokerCheck is one of the most used web applications in the financial industry by the Government agencies, brokerage firms, investment adviser firms and individuals. Scope of this project was to identify usability paint points from users and redesign the UI for a better user experience.

Role & responsibilities

• Interview stakeholders and business users for information about usage of this application by the SEC (Government), firms, investors and investment advisers
• Develop IA documentation - Personas, Userflows, Navigation model & Responsive design strategy
• Art direction on high fidelity designs
• Identify users from different segments for Usability testing and work with Usability tester for testing results
• Work with front-end developers and designers in building rapid prototypes
• Work with Usability tester to generate metrics on findings
• Work with front-end development team and testing, suggested fixes for alternative designs for a pixel perfect design implementation

Process

• Since this was a redesign, we started with usability testing of existing application
• Understand business requirements for the redesign of this application, interview with stakeholders, interview firms, broker dealers and SEC users
• Develop IA documentation - Personas, Userflows, Navigation model & Responsive design strategy
• Branding & design guidelines
• Concepts & High Fidelity Screens
• Review with business users, firm users and consumers
• Review, Usability test and iterate designs
• Develop prototype for usability testing with real data
• Recommend user experience fixes on findings and repeat usability tests
